Girl Effect, We’re a creative non-profit empowering girls to change their lives. Started by the Nike Foundation, we are experts in media, mobile, brand and international development: a unique mix of skills that we use to solve global problems in a different way.
We work across the world in the places where girls are marginalised and vulnerable. We create for young people in ways they love and interact with. And it’s all delivered through the media and mobile tech they use every day – from apps that build skills, to TV dramas that explore vital issues, to magazines written by girls.
We are recruiting to fill the following positions below:
Title: Program Coordinator
Location: Nigeria
Employment Type: Contract
Duration: 12 months
What you’ll do
Program planning and implementation:
- Support with detailed program planning, updating program plans schedules, coordination and delivery of all assigned program activities as outlined in the detailed implementation plan in line with donor requirements, and delivery timelines within budget
- Coordinate and facilitate timely review and sharing of all program documents and routine communication with teams to provide updates on program progress
- Help tell the story of key finding and capturing key moments of success and learnings to share with the wider Girl Effect team and leadership.
Technology Innovations:
- Assist on key innovations in AI development by supporting the technology team to coordinate across a wide network of technology partners.
- Support the team by coordinating and facilitating meetings, preparing agendas, taking notes, and convening stakeholders as necessary.
Monitoring, reporting, evaluation, and learning:
- Track program priorities, tasks, milestones and report any challenges and/or gaps identified to inform adjustments to plans and implementation schedules.
- Support in coordinating, organizing and development of program evaluation activities, reports documentation of change stories in accordance with program requirements
- Coordinate effective knowledge management mechanisms and learning forums at regular points to facilitate sharing of innovative/best practices or lessons learned and impact
General administration:
- Attend all relevant meetings, noting new tasks that arise and ensuring that they are prioritized and assigned to the right person, with agreed-upon timelines that you check up on
- Identify sources, gather and compile data and information for the development of proposals, presentations, requisitions, contracts, expenditure authorizations etc
- Manage and update team working and communication channels on ongoing projects e.g. Slack, Asana, Miro etc
- Suggest new tools, systems and processes that could improve coordination and communication for our teams
- Take note of any news or environmental changes in our markets that might affect our programs, teams, and future work and ensure the team is up to date on these channels.
Experience and skills
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3+ years full-time work experience with project management responsibilities
- Experience working in the media, design or non-profit sectors
- Experience working with clients or external stakeholders is a plus
- Experience working in sub-Saharan Africa or even working multiple projects and countries, is highly desirable
- Experience or a willingness to get experienced quickly with our internal tools including Google docs, Slack, and Miro
- Solid presentation skills that extend across Keynote, Powerpoint and Google Slides
- Proficiency in English key plus French would be a plus

Title: Evidence and Insights Manager
Location: Nigeria

Context of the Role
- The Evidence & Insights team within Girl Effect conducts formative research, monitoring & evaluation to support the organisation in designing and developing our work to create the greatest impact for girls.
- We also work closely with the programmes and social behaviour change (SBC) teams to measure and evaluate our work against our specific objectives and demonstrate our impact to existing and potential donors as well as other stakeholders such as governments and community partners.
- The team plays a key role in ensuring we are a learning organisation, collecting and using data and insights to understand how we can maximise our reach & impact, and feeding that learning back into the organisation.
- As Girl Effect continues its implementation in Nigeria, across HPV vaccination, Nutrition, Sexual reproductive health and Economic empowerment, we have an exciting and varied portfolio of research, monitoring and evaluation planned in Nigeria.
- So, we are looking for an experienced monitoring, evidence, research and learning manager to join our team and to manage the delivery of this range of work in Nigeria.
What you’ll do
- Working with the local and global team, implement the market research and knowledge building strategy that effectively informs, monitors, and evaluates the design and delivery of the Nigeria program portfolio.
- With support from the Evidence and Insights team, lead research projects across Girl Effect Nigeria product portfolio, including tool design, data collection, data management and analysis, and report writing.
- Work closely with programmes, SBCC and create managers and communications teams throughout the research process to ensure MERL meets their needs and that findings are shared in engaging and impactful ways.
- Manage the research budget and prioritise resources to maximize the value of research and evidence generation activities.
- Support the commissioning of research projects and manage research agencies to conduct research activities; write requests for proposals and Terms of Reference for studies, review research tools, advise on sampling strategies and methodologies, and review analysis and
- Support with quality assurance during fieldwork, with on-site visits’ or something, as I think this will be a key aspect of the role.
- Provide technical expertise to research, monitoring, and evaluation projects, working alongside our global MERL team as required. You will advise on fit-for purpose designs suggesting qualitative and/or quantitative methodologies or other approaches (e.g. using digital methods or secondary data sources) as appropriate.
- Ensure that Girl Effect’s ethical and safeguarding standards are upheld, and that field implementation is conducted to the highest standards, through training and oversight of field research partners.
- Ensure that research outputs are accessible, readily understandable, and useful, ensuring they are utilised as much as possible.
- Develop research partnerships with local and international research organisations to maximise opportunities for cost-sharing and joint learning.
Who you are
- Substantial experience (minimum 5 years) in applied research and/or monitoring and evaluation in Nigeria or a postgraduate degree in a relevant field and at least 4 years of work
- Passionate about working with adolescent girls and young women and truly supporting them thrive in challenging environments.
- Demonstrated experience in implementation of high quality qualitative and quantitative research design, fieldwork, data analysis and reporting.
- Experience of commissioning and managing research agencies throughout projects ensuring deliverables are completed on time and meeting the organisational needs.
- Strong qualitative and quantitative data analysis skills; proficient with digital adaptations.
- Demonstrated experience in uncovering new insights and translating these into exciting, engaging reports and research outputs.
- Experience in strategic planning and knowledge management
- Strong communication skills; able to work effectively across functions and countries.
- Excellent organisation and project management skills; able to develop and drive research processes and timelines.
- Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity about the cultures within which Girl Effect

Title: Individual Consultant – UI/UX Researcher
Location: Nigeria
Employment Type: Contract
Duration: Sept 2024 to February 2025.
What you’ll do
- The objective is to support the design for new experiences by creating innovative solutions for a wide variety of product design challenges ensuring they align with the organization’s behavior change goals and target audience needs.
- The designer will be expected to apply Human Centered Design thinking and approach not just within products, but also across the wider product ecosystem at Girl Effect and the complicated user journeys from product to product as well.
- This consultant will conduct design sprints,consolidate outputs of design sessions, andsupport the running of feature prioritization sessions.
- They will also conduct prototyping activities collaboratively with a cohort of young people and other stakeholders across products such as chatbots, mobile applications, and brand websites, among others related to upcoming and existing products.
- In this role, you should be an analytical and creative designer who can grasp user needs and solve problems. A strong portfolio of successful UX and other technical projects is essential. The engagement will start from Sept 2024 to February 2025.
UX Analysis:
- Devise and conduct a consultation plan with key stakeholders and target audiences including questionnaires, focus groups or interviews.
- Conduct a thorough assessment of the current UX design, identifying usability challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
- Create user personas and scenarios to guide the design improvements based on user needs and goals.
- Conduct concept and usability testing in the field with users
- Provide a detailed report summarizing the findings, including prioritized recommendations for UX enhancements to stakeholders and developers.
- Work with data to optimize and enhance products.
- Own and conduct design reviews with data, engineering and content teams to ensure a successful deployment with an appropriate go-ahead.
UI Enhancement:
- Utilize the insights from the UX analysis to redesign and enhance the visual appearance of the web platform’s user interface.
- Define interaction models, UI components, and navigation structures to optimize user engagement and facilitate information discovery.
- Incorporate interactive elements to enhance usability and convey complex concepts effectively.
- Develop wireframes, interactive prototypes, and mockups to illustrate proposed UI changes.
- Implement modern design principles, including responsiveness, consistency, and visual hierarchy, while aligning with our brand identity.
- Ensure the new UI design elements fit seamlessly into the existing platform’s technical framework, ensuring a consistent and cohesive user experience across all website components.
- Collaborate with Designers and Developers to create intuitive, user-friendly software to ensure that the updated UI maintains or improves the platform’s overall performance and loading speed.
- Support UI content creation as and when required.
Expected Commitment:
- The assignment will take approximately six months to complete.
- Depending on the programme’s needs, the consultant may be required to work 15- 20 hours each week on this assignment.
- The consultant’s assignment period is from September 2024 to February 2025.
Experience and skills
- You must be based in Nigeria and can travel within the country.
- Strong language skills in speaking, writing, presenting, and reading in English Language. Any other Nigerian languages or dialects are a bonus.
- 4+ years of professional experience in a design consultancy or equivalent position collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
- Fluency in the human-centered design process from qualitative research and synthesis to ideation, prototyping, and implementation.
- Service Design, UX, UI – Proficiency in wireframing and design tools such as Invision, Figma, Miro etc.
- You are solution-focused and medium-agnostic, willing to step out of your core skill set or discipline to find the correct solution to a design challenge.
- You have cultural sensitivity, creativity, and resourcefulness—comfortable finding your way through.
- You deliver precise and effective written and verbal communication to convey ideas, instructions, and feedback to team members, girls and young women.
Highly Desirable:
- Experience in health-related content/Behavior change content production in the field of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and Economic Empowerment would be a massive bonus.
- Experience in Conversational Interfaces such as Chatbots
- Basic Understanding/development of Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning
- Cross-cultural design experience and/or working in design for ICT4D
- Experience working in emerging markets.
- Experience collaborating with in-house and third-party developers in agile sprints, stewarding the transfer of design to development.
- Familiarity with tools such as Google Suite, Asana and Slack is a bonus.
